If you want to focus on land operations, whilst still liking the idea of spending some time on boats, then join our marine cadet detachment at Woking Sea Cadets. If you've got the bottle, you could soon be following in the footsteps of the Royal Marine commandos ... learning the combat skills of camouflage and concealment ... reaching a rendezvous with a map and compass (or perhaps just the stars to guide you) ... and developing new skills to give you a head start in life.

The Marine Cadet Detachment is open to boys and girls from age 13. So move on from the make-believe action in the world of computer games. Get real and become a Marine Cadet at our Woking unit.

When you change out of your combat kit for parades and ceremonial occasions, you’ll wear the famous ‘blues’ – the best uniform of the Royal Marines.

Commandos instructing Marine Cadets

Initial training within the Marine Cadet Detachment teaches you the background and the history of the regular Royal Marine service and its structure. You then progress to the next level of training, which consists of basic map reading, field craft and weapons training, bringing your knowledge to a higher level and thus gaining you promotion (the Marine Cadets have adopted the Royal Marines rank structure). As with their Sea Cadet colleagues, the Marine Cadets have the opportunity to follow specialisations and to visit regular Naval and Royal Marine establishments in order to undergo advanced training.

Marine Cadets are an important part of the Sea Cadet Corps. Although their training is designed as an introduction to life as a Royal Marine, a marine cadet does not necessarily have to plan to join the Royal Marines or any other Service later.
